VCU’s vice president for government and external relations resigns
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Matt Conrad, Virginia Commonwealth University's (VCU) vice president for government and external relations, has resigned.
According to a VCU spokesperson, Conrad's resignation went into effect on Monday, July 7, after serving the university for nearly 13 years.
“Matt’s knowledge of government relations and his commitment to VCU’s mission has helped move VCU forward in serving the people who benefit from its mission,” said VCU President Michael Rao. “I thank Matt for his service to VCU and wish him continued success in what comes next.”
A national search for an executive director for government relations began in June after Conrad's departure was announced. Until there is a permanent replacement for the positions, Karah Gunther, vice president for External Affairs and Health Policy, will lead the office on an interim basis.
The role involves representing VCU and VCU Health System to the executive and legislative branches of local, state and federal governments. According to officials, Conrad also focused on "economic development, regional collaboration and strategic initiatives."
"Under President Michael Rao’s visionary leadership, VCU has exemplified its mission more clearly than ever before, driving innovation, progress and meaningful change on a national and international scale, but most significantly within the city and region it proudly serves," Conrad said. "It has been a distinct privilege to support President Rao in advancing this important work."
