Vendor fair celebrating Black-owned businesses coming to Chesterfield

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- As part of honoring Black History Month this February, 8News got a visit on Monday morning from coordinators with an upcoming vendor market and fair that aims to celebrate local Black-owned businesses. Good Morning Richmond anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall were joined on Monday, Feb. 17 by Tonya Leabough and Adrienne Cole Johnson to talk about the Black History Month Vendor Market and Fair. The fair was made possible through a partnership with Chesterfield Parks and Recreation and Richmond Night Market. The event will be held at the Beulah Recreation Center, located at 6901 Hopkins Road in Chesterfield, on Saturday, Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. -- offering almost 40 vendors with a variety of products. "Anything from jewelry, visual art, clothing, skin care -- if you can make it by hand, it'll be there," said Johnson, the Co-Founder of Richmond Night Market. "So it's a great opportunity to come out and support artists and vendors throughout the region." Leabough, the Black History Month Coordinator for Chesterfield Parks and Recreation, discussed how the partnership between the two organizations came to be. "This is our second year, and we were thinking about highlighting small businesses and so I saw that the Richmond Night Market was doing their own thing, and I was like 'that'll be a good partnership to come in' -- and they're a small business also, and then we just decided to, you know, come together and highlight these small businesses," Leabough said. The guests also brought some items to give viewers a taste of what they could expect from the vendors at the event, including Brown Baby, a newer business started in 2023 that makes unique children's clothing. Chesterfield County will be celebrating Black History Month with several events throughout February, click here for more information.
