Virginia Credit Union River City Half & 5K returns for third year
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Virginia Credit Union River City Half and River City 5K will return for its third year in March, with 8News as its official media partner.
The River City Half will take place on Saturday, March 7, and this year it features several new elements, including the Rally for River City Contest that aims to help motivate participating runners.
The Rally for River City Contest is described by event organizers as "a spirited initiative that invites neighborhoods, families and community groups to turn sections of the course into high-energy cheer zones."
As part of 8News' sponsorship of the event, people can expect on-air personalities serving as race-day emcees, pre-race TV coverage and live cut-ins at the races to make sure viewers across the region can tune in.
While the event has highlighted local nonprofits for the past two years, this year marks a record, as there are 15 nonprofit partners joining the race -- including Sports Backers, the Alzheimer's Association Greater Richmond Chapter, CARITAS and many more.
Any community groups interested in participating in the Rally for River City Contest have to register by Feb. 14. Four groups will win cash prizes, with one prize reserved for the best on-course charity partner.
Groups that register may receive up to $150 in reimbursement for party supplies. More information about the Rally for River City Contest can be found by clicking here, and any questions can be sent to Kristen Eichert at kristen@sportsbackers.org.
