Virginia crews on full force to clean secondary roads with heavy ice, officials say

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Department of Public Works (DPW) officials said their crews remain in full force on secondary and subdivision roads.

This comes after residents across Central Virginia are still wondering when their roads will be treated for heavy ice.

VDOT officials said clearing interstates and primary roads were the main priority when removing snow and ice. But for the secondary roads, as of now they told 8News there's nothing new they can share about when or how long it will take them to remove ice there.

Similarly, Richmond DPW officials said their team is "swamped" with constant requests across the city.

We reached out to local snowplow companies who said some neighborhoods are too icy to be plowed so they're applying sand to improve traction. They told 8News they're so exhausted from working around the clock that they couldn't do an interview.
