Virginia Dems join Planned Parenthood to launch ‘Bros for Repro’

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Several incumbent Democrats running in competitive House of Delegates districts joined Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia in launching its “Bros for Repro” campaign on Tuesday.

“Women are family members, they are spouses, they are many things to lots of different men, and they care and want those people to stay in their lives,” said Del. Josh Thomas (D-Prince William). 

“It just seems like it’s a cheesy slogan on a very serious topic,” said Republican Tim Anderson, who’s challenging one of the Bros for Repro, Del. Michael Feggans (D-Virginia Beach). 

The Bros for Repro say that, this November, it’s up to men to put the reproductive rights of their loved ones first by helping to ensure they elect Democrats committed to advancing a proposed constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights in Virginia.

“I would just ask that we speak up, we show up, and we relentlessly stand up for the dignity and the sacred choice of every soul, every person, and affirming that justice is holy, freedom is sacred and real love honors choice,” said Del. Joshua Cole (D-Fredericksburg).

However, Anderson says the issue of reproductive rights is now one that is not top of mind for Virginia voters.

“When I talk to people, their issues are crime, the economy, they can’t pay for their bills because grocery prices are too expensive, utility prices are too expensive. Nobody has ever talked to me, not one time in the thousands of doors that we’ve knocked, that abortion is their top two or three issues,” Anderson told 8News. 

If the General Assembly approves the proposed constitutional amendment to protect abortion rights during next year’s session, it will then head to voters for their consideration next November.
