Virginia leaders react after 15 killed during tragic New Year’s Day attack in New Orleans

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia leaders are speaking out after a tragic attack carried out at a New Year's Day celebration in New Orleans left 15 dead and over 30 people injured. Both the Associated Press and ABC reported that the original death toll of at least 10 has since risen to 15 after a man drove a rented pickup truck through a crowd on Bourbon Street on Wednesday, Jan. 1. Officials told ABC that he then got out of the car and fired at officers, who killed him. That man, 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, was an Army veteran who authorities claimed "was 'hell-bent' on killing as many people as possible," according to ABC. Officials have since shared that they believe Jabbar had at least one accomplice.
