Virginia Lottery players ‘break the bank,’ earning 18 times what they wagered in Pick 4 drawing

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Lottery players raked in about 18 times more than what they wagered in Tuesday's Pick 4 drawing, with their winnings totaling over $8 million.

On Tuesday, June 3, the Virginia Lottery pulled the numbers 4-4-4-4 in its nightly Pick 4 drawing.

"Quadruple numbers tend to be very popular in the Pick 4 game and are some of the most heavily wagered," the Virginia lottery said in a press release. "A player who matches all four numbers on a $1 wager wins $5,000."

This remarkable pull meant that players' combined $438,939 in wagers grew exponentially, "break[ing] the bank" with a whopping $7.9 million in winnings.

"That means the Virginia Lottery paid out 18 times what it took in for the drawing," the agency said.
