Virginia National Guard soldiers standing by during winter weather

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- According to the Virginia National Guard, about 65 soldiers are standing by on Tuesday to support the response to winter weather throughout the state.

As of the morning on Tuesday, Feb. 11, Virginia National Guard soldiers were reportedly organized in teams prepared to reduce debris to help clear roads and power line routes. Troops also have tactical trucks capable of traveling through deep snow or high water.

Black Hawk helicopters capable of rescue hoists were also alerted and on standby.

About 20 additional soldiers and members of the Virginia Defense Force were on duty to support. Soldiers and airmen also were providing support at the Virginia National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters in Richmond.
