Virginia sees 155 crashes amid second winter storm: VSP
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Just days after the season's first snowstorm on Friday, Virginia saw a second winter storm -- and a second round of crashes -- on Monday.
According to the Virginia State Police, between 12 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 8, troopers responded to 155 crashes statewide. None of those crashes were fatal, but 11 resulted in injuries.
Of those, 15 crashes with two reported injuries were in Central Virginia.
During the snowstorm on Friday, Dec. 5, troopers responded to a total of 141 crashes statewide between 12 a.m. and noon. None of those crashes were deadly, but 20 resulted in injuries.
Though Monday's snowfall is expected to stop around 7 p.m., Virginians should stay off the roads and avoid driving until the roadways have been treated again, per the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT).
VDOT warns that the remaining snow on the roadways will refreeze overnight, creating hazardous road conditions, especially during the morning commute on Tuesday, Dec. 9.
