Virginia State University to host 3rd annual AgFest

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News got a visit from two Virginia State University (VSU) students on Monday morning to promote the upcoming VSU AgFest -- a celebration of the role that agriculture plays in local communities.

To learn more about the event, 8News Anchors Autumn Childress and Delaney Hall spoke with VSU Hospitality Management Students Shelby Hanson and ZaMya Brown.

"AgFest is a celebration of agriculture at Virginia State University and our goal is to connect to food and farm-to-table aspect through vendors, fun and overall community experience," Brown said.

The event will take place on Tuesday, March 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on VSU's campus. It will feature hands-on activities, entertainment and several different food options.

The students prepared a meal for the anchors while in the studio, demonstrating in real-time the impact of the farm-to-table program. They presented a fried green tomato burrata and a hot honey vinaigrette -- with all ingredients grown and available at the VSU farm.
