Virginia Tech fires defensive coordinator Chris Marve, two other coaches

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia Tech football head coach Brent Pry made staff changes on Thursday, announcing the departure of defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Chris Marve, offensive line coach Ron Crook and senior director of strength and conditioning Dwight Galt, IV. The announcement comes following the Hokies 6-6 season that saw the Hokie defense ranked 58th nationally. Marve and Galt came to Blacksburg in 2022 alongside the hire of Brent Pry while Crook joined the staff in 2023. Alongside the announcement, Pry released the following statement: “I am grateful for the dedication and hard work that Coach Marve, Coach Crook, and Coach Galt have put into the Virginia Tech football program,” Pry said. “They are outstanding individuals who, along with their families, have invested greatly in our university and our student-athletes. However, the on-field results have not aligned with our expectations. As head coach, it is my responsibility to make the necessary adjustments to bring this program back to prominence and ensure Hokie Nation experiences the success it deserves.” The Hokies (6-6) are set to play Minnesota (7-5) in the Duke’s Mayo Bowl on January 3 at Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium, marking their 36th all-time bowl appearance.
