Virginia’s ICE detention centers see highest detainee population since 2020, according to TRAC Immigration

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia's Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities saw the highest number of detainees in March since 2020, just months after the beginning of President Donald Trump's second term, according to TRAC Immigration.

Virginia is home to two ICE detention centers: the Farmville Detention Center, located in Prince Edward County, which has a capacity of 732, and the Caroline Detention Center in Caroline County's Bowling Green area, which has a capacity of 336.

Trump took office on Jan. 20, 2025, and according to TRAC Immigration, the average daily population of detainees on Jan. 21 was 440 at the Farmville Detention Center and 268 at the Caroline Detention Center.

Roughly two months later, as of March 17, TRAC Immigration data shows that the average daily population of detainees at Farmville Detention Center increased to 488, with Caroline Detention Center's population increasing to 284.

As of March 17, both facilities have reached the highest average daily population of detainees since 2020, according to TRAC Immigration.

Since January, 8News has reached out to ICE multiple times via email and phone calls seeking information regarding arrests and detainees. We have not received a response.
