Virginia’s lottery sales and payouts rank top three in the nation
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A new study shows that Virginia ranked top three in both highest lottery sales and highest lottery payouts per capita.
In a recent study from the financial website Motley Fool Money, data revealed how much money people spend on lottery and the likelihood of winning across the country. The study showed that Virginia ranked top three for highest lottery sales and the highest prizes paid per dollar spent.
According to the study, Virginia came in third for most popular state for lottery in the country -- take a look at the statistics below:

In addition, the data also revealed that the Commonwealth state paid out the highest prizes for lottery -- see data below:

The data shows about 50% of Americans buy lottery tickets once a year or rarely, leaving only a small percentage who play the lottery consistently.
