Visual Arts Center of Richmond hosts workshops for veterans
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Visual Arts Center of Richmond began hosting workshops for veterans in 2015. 8News got a look at what those classes entail. In 2015, the center launched a partnership with the Richmond Veterans Administration Medical Center. VisArts said the program brings veterans who are undergoing a form of treatment to its studios for art workshops intended to help them transition back to civilian life. VisArts further said most of the veterans are patients at the Veterans Affairs Polytrauma Rehabilitation Center. Common issues veterans in the center face include mobility issues, PTSD and vision problems. 8News got a look at the Veterans Concrete Casting Workshop and Clay Building Workshop, as well as a woodworking workshop and more.
