VSP warns drivers to stay off roads after 171 crashes reported
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police (VSP) troopers have urged drivers to stay off the roads as troopers have responded to 171 road crashes as a second winter storm hits Virginia this weekend.
On Saturday, Jan. 31, VSP has reported that there have been 171 crashes across Virginia, with 18 of them resulting in injuries as another winter storm travels across parts of Virginia.
Of the 171 crashes, 17 took place in Central Virginia, with one injury and one fatality, but the weather was not a factor.

Not all of the incidents reported are due to the winter weather, but road conditions are still icy from the previous weekend's storm, creating hazardous travel. As the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews continue to clear primary, secondary and subdivision roads, VSP has urged motorists to stay off roads this weekend.
If you must travel, clear all ice and snow off vehicles and make sure to leave room on the roads for VDOT trucks and emergency crews so that they can do their jobs.
Motorists should also remember that the storm may impact emergency response times for stranded drivers.
Last weekend, VSP reported that there were 506 crashes on Virginia roadways due to the dangerous snow and ice storm.
