‘We are awestruck’: 2025 Richmond Marathon a huge success, organizers say
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The sold-out 2025 Richmond Marathon took over the River City, with more than 20,000 racers lacing up their sneakers and taking to the streets Saturday morning.
On Saturday, Nov. 14, Sports Backers hosted the 48th-annual Allianz Richmond Marathon. It welcomed over 21,000 participants across the main marathon, the CarMax Richmond Half Marathon and the VCU Health Richmond 8K. They represented all 50 U.S. states and 24 countries.
According to Sports Backers, these racers were cheered on by tens of thousands of spectators, "creating an electric atmosphere as athletes made their way to the iconic riverfront finish downtown."

This year's races were historic in that they sold out weeks in advance of the big day.
Local designer creates meaningful medal for 2025 Richmond Marathon finishers
“We are awestruck by the response to this year’s event,” said Meghan Keogh, race director for the Allianz Richmond Marathon, in a press release. “After spending the last 20 years working on this race, experiencing my first year as Race Director during a historic sellout is incredibly meaningful. Richmond’s running community, our volunteers and the thousands of residents who show up to cheer every year are the heartbeat of this event. Their energy is what makes us ‘America’s Friendliest Marathon,’ and seeing that spirit resonate with runners from across the country is something I’ll never forget.”
