Where can I get rid of leftover pumpkins in Henrico County?

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A pumpkin composting program will be hosted in Henrico during the first week of November to help residents get rid of their leftover pumpkins sustainably. The pumpkin composting program will be held from Nov. 1 to 8 by the Henrico Environmental Action Resource Team (HEART) and Keep Henrico Beautiful. Their aim is to offer people a way to dispose of leftover pumpkins while helping the environment and decreasing landfill waste. Residents can go to the Springfield Road Public Use Area located at 10600 Fords Country Lane or Charles City Road Public Use Area located at 2075 Charles City Road to drop off their leftover pumpkins for free. Pumpkins eligible for composting can be carved but should not have any paint or artificial decorations on them. There will be another composting opportunity that follows the pumpkin composting program, which will include accepting kitchen scraps from residents for free. NOPE Compost Co. will provide bins at public use areas for residents to get rid of kitchen scraps and other compostable materials. The kitchen scrap compost program is not available to businesses. (Courtesy of Henrico County) The bins will be emptied periodically, the contents will be turned into compost and NOPE will distribute the compost to business partners throughout the central Virginia and Tidewater areas to boost sustainability throughout the region. According to NOPE, compost supports the health of soil and waterways, and keeping the items out of landfills helps reduce greenhouse gas production.
