Where to see fireworks, light shows in the Richmond area

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- What better way to celebrate the fourth of July, than with fireworks in Richmond! Here are some local events celebrating the birth of the nation.

Goochland County Fireworks Show

For those in the Goochland area, there is a county fireworks show happening on Thursday, July 3. The event will be hosted by Goochland County Parks and Recreation. People of all ages are encouraged to attend this free show, which will run from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The fireworks will be visible from the following locations:

  • County Admin Parking Lot -- 1800 Sandy Hook Rd.
  • NAPA Field Parking Lot -- 1800 Sandy Hook Rd.
  • Farmers Market Lot -- 1889 Sandy Hook Rd.
  • Fairgrounds Lot -- 2744 Fairground Rd.
  • Old Goochland Elementary School
  • Goochland High School lots -- 3250 River Rd. W
  • Goochland Branch Library -- 3075 River Rd. W

Dogwood Dell -- The Big Show

A familiar Richmond firework-inclusive event is returning this year -- The Big Show at Dogwood Dell -- which will be held at the Dogwood Dell Amphitheater, located at 600 S Arthur Ashe Boulevard. The event is free, for all ages and will start at 5:30 p.m. The show is part of the Dogwood Dell 68th Festival of the Arts, and will include fireworks and appearances from Full Spectrum, Virginia Opera and Richmond Concert Band. Star-Spangled Squirrels Fest at The Diamond

Baseball fans can celebrate Independence Day with the Flying Squirrels this weekend as they are set to host the Star-Spangled Squirrels Fest. Head to The Diamond, located at 3001 N. Arthur Ashe Boulevard, on July 4 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. to see fireworks, live music, food and drink specials and more. Chesterfield County Fairgrounds

Chesterfield residents can visit the Chesterfield County Fairgrounds, located at 10300 Courthouse Road, on July 4 for fireworks, food vendors, live music, kids zones and more. The celebration is free to attend, and gates open at 5 p.m. with fireworks starting after the sun goes down. For more information about the event and parking availability, click here.

Sensory-friendly: Henrico County's Red, White & Lights

For those who are more sensory sensitive, be sure to catch Henrico County's Red, White & Lights celebration on July 4 at Crump Park, located at 3400 Mountain Rd., from 4 to 10 p.m. It is a family-friendly, free event and features a laser-light show instead of fireworks. People can also enjoy food trucks, historical reenactments and a performance from the Richmond Symphony. For more information, click here.
