Winter Storm Warning issued for Central Virginia ahead of snowfall

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a winter storm warning for Central Virginia ahead of Friday evening's forecasted snowfall.

As of 10:45 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 10, the following localities had been placed under the winter storm warning:

  • Brunswick County
  • Charles City County
  • Cumberland County
  • Dinwiddie County
  • Chesterfield County
  • Colonial Heights
  • Henrico County
  • Eastern King William County
  • Eastern King and Queen County
  • Greensville County
  • Middlesex County
  • New Kent County
  • Powhatan County
  • Prince Edward County
  • Prince George County
  • Sussex County
  • The City of Richmond

According to the NWS, heavy snow -- with upwards of 5 inches in some areas -- is expected to affect road conditions, likely making them slick and hazardous.

The warning will go into effect at 7 p.m. and remain until 1 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 11.
