Witness says dog dumped at New Kent gas station, authorities investigating claim

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- After a citizen claimed they witnessed a dog being dumped at a New Kent County gas station on Sunday, authorities are investigating to find out the truth.

On Monday, Nov. 24, the New Kent County Sheriff's Office's Animal Protection Unit took to Facebook to ask for the public's help in a case of alleged animal abandonment.

The female dog pictured below was brought to the New Kent shelter by a Charles City County sheriff's deputy, who said they were given the dog by a citizen.

That citizen told the deputy that they witnessed the dog being dropped off at the BP gas station at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Courthouse Road around 6 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 23.

The suspect reportedly came and left in "an older model, square body black Tahoe with chrome rims." While the citizen said the Tahoe had a Virginia license plate, they did not get the plate number.
