Woman charged with first-degree murder after deadly shooting in Petersburg

PETERSBURG, Va. (WRIC) -- A woman has been charged with first-degree murder after a deadly shooting that occurred in Petersburg in August.

Two shootings the Petersburg Bureau of Police determined to be related took place the afternoon of Tuesday, Aug. 6.

At about 1 p.m. on Tuesday, officers responded to the 200 block of Holly Hill Drive and found Devere McKinney, who had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

A second shooting call came in as investigators worked the Holly Hill Drive scene. Officers who responded to the 900 block of Winfield Road found an unidentified female victim who had also been shot. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

On Sept. 17, 34-year-old Jamal Burrows was arrested in Hopewell in connection to the Holly Hill Drive shooting with the assistance of the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force.

Police said he was initially charged with second-degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and the possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

On Sept. 23, police announced that Burrows is now charged with first-degree murder. He is currently being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail.

Police said 33-year-old Kiana Mabry was also arrested and charged with first-degree murder. She is also being held without bond at Riverside Regional Jail, officials said.
