14th annual Richmond Bluegrass Jam to be held in Chesterfield County
CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The 14th annual Richmond Bluegrass Jam will take place in Chesterfield County in May to raise money for military veterans and their families.
The Richmond Bluegrass Jam will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on May 3 at American Legion Post 354 on the banks of the James River in the Midlothian area of Chesterfield County.
According to a spokesperson, this free, family-friendly event will feature nearly 20 of the region's best bluegrass and Americana bands performing on multiple stages to raise money for military veterans and their families.
Bands set to perform at the event include Out of Uniform, Slack Family Bluegrass Band, Cary Street Ramblers, Tara Mills Band and more.
The event will also feature local craft beverages, food trucks and a family activities area.
In addition to listening to the scheduled bands, attendees are encouraged to bring their own instruments to play in several open jam areas and an instrument check station at the event.
The spokesperson said money raised from the Richmond Bluegrass Jam will go towards local organizations Richmond Fisher House and the Liberation Veteran Services.
While the event is free, attendees can make tax-deductible donations at the event or online at the Richmond Bluegrass Jam's website.
“It is our privilege to host the annual Richmond Bluegrass Jam as a token of our thanks to our military and their families,” said Brian Sullivan, RVA Bluegrass Jam Inc. board member and the event’s founder. “The Jam is a local tradition that supports critical housing and more to those active duty and veteran families in need. The music community in Richmond, and all around Central Virginia, is filled with amazing people willing to lend their time and talents. We hope the Richmond Bluegrass Jam continues to bring folks together.”
According to officials, parking for the event will be available at James River High School, located at 3700 James River Rd., with free shuttles running throughout the day.
