HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 17-year-old girl has been identified by police as the person who was killed in a crash on Interstate 95 in Henrico County on Sunday.

At 8:45 p.m. on Sunday, May 4, Virginia State Police troopers responded to a crash on I-95 South near the exit onto Brook Road in Henrico County.

Police said the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2004 Toyota Camry rear-ended a 2012 Honda Pilot in the left lane.

The Toyota reportedly pulled over to the right shoulder, while the Honda came to a stop partially in the left lane.

One of the people inside the Honda, a 17-year-old girl, got out of the vehicle, possibly to assess the damage.

According to police, a 2022 Honda Civic then approached in the left lane, hitting the 17-year-old girl and the rear of the stopped Honda Pilot before running off the road and hitting the guardrail.

The 17-year-old girl of the Crewe area of Nottoway County died at the scene, officials said. Her mother and other family members were inside one of the involved vehicles, and next of kin was notified at the scene.

No other injuries were reported, police said.

Officials continue to investigate.
