18-year-old dies after vehicle crash, fire in New Kent County

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An 18-year-old man is dead after police said a single-vehicle crash and vehicle fire occurred in New Kent County Sunday afternoon.
At around 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 21, Virginia State Police said a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 was heading west on Route 60 in New Kent County when it ran off the left side of the road, hit a tree, overturned and came to rest on its driver's side.
Police said the vehicle then caught fire.
New Kent County Fire-Rescue responded to the scene and extinguished the fire.
A release from Virginia State Police identified the driver as 18-year-old Gavin Awessew Adkins. He was reportedly the only person in the vehicle.
Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
