25-year-old identified as electric scooter rider hit, killed by vehicle in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The person who was hit and killed by a vehicle while riding an electric scooter in Chesterfield County on Sunday evening has been identified as a 25-year-old woman.

On Tuesday, Jan. 20, police announced that the woman was identified as 25-year-old Angelica Vargas Pita of Chesterfield County.

This comes after the Chesterfield County Police Department said the crash occurred at 9:22 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, at the intersection of Route 60 and Branchway Road.

Police said officers arrived to the intersection and found Pita in the road. Officials provided aid until rescue personnel arrived.

Pita was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, after which she was pronounced dead.

According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates that a vehicle hit the electric scooter while both were in the travel lanes on Route 60.

Officials said the driver of the vehicle was not injured, stayed on the scene and is cooperating with police.
