26-year-old man charged in deadly Chesterfield hit-and-run

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been arrested and charged in connection with a hit-and-run in Chesterfield County that left one person dead and another with life-threatening injuries.

The incident occurred on Saturday, Nov. 22 at 2:24 a.m. when Virginia State Police responded to a reported crash on Interstate 95 south near Exit 61 B.

According to police, when troopers arrived they found a 2014 Jeep Compass and a 2014 Nissan Altima stopped in the right travel lane.

The driver of the Nissan Altima, 27-year-old Anthony Lee Crawford of Chesterfield County, was found dead at the scene, according to police.

The Jeep Compass driver, 31-year-old Asti Naimah Lacy, was found injured and was taken to VCU Medical Center, where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries.

Twenty-six-year-old Layton Dangelo of Emporia has been arrested and charged with "hit and run and reckless driving," according to police.

According to indications by the preliminary investigation, both vehicles came to a stop in the right travel lane for unknown reasons.

"Both drivers were standing outside of their vehicles, near the driver’s side doors and closest to the center lane, when they were struck by an unknown vehicle," said state police. The suspects car also hit the Jeep's open driver side door before they fled the scene.
