28-year-old man charged after alleged domestic dispute in New Kent

NEW KENT COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A man has been arrested and charged following a reported domestic dispute at a New Kent County truck stop on Thursday.
On Thursday, July 3, deputies with the New Kent County Sheriff's Office responded to the Pilot Travel Center on Route 106 for a domestic dispute involving a firearm.
The suspect -- later identified as 28-year-old Jamal A. Washington of Chesapeake -- fled to a local Love's and was soon detained.
Washington is a convicted felon with an active protective order and allegedly assaulted his stepfather and brandished a short-barreled rifle.
Deputies say the weapon was recovered at the scene,
Washington has been arrested and charged with the following offenses:
- Domestic assault
- Possession of a firearm by felon
- Violation of protective order
- Possession of a short-barreled rifle
He is being held at Pamunkey Regional Jail without bond.
