3-acre active wildfire reported near Wintergreen, Blue Ridge Parkway
NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- An alert sent out by Wintergreen alerted residents to an active wildfire near the locality on Thursday afternoon.
The alert was sent out on Thursday, March 27, and reported an active wildfire located around five miles north of Wintergreen, and east of the Humpback Rocks hiking area near milepost seven of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
As of the time of reporting, the fire spans 3 acres of land across Nelson and Augusta counties and it is uncontained.
Multiple crews are currently on site, according to officials, and they have requested helicopter support as a result of the area's steep terrain.
Although there is smoke present in Wintergreen, the alert stated that the fire is not expected to become a threat to Wintergreen. Residents of the area are urged to check their messages and be prepared to leave if required.
