37-year-old man shot, killed after Richmond robbery turns deadly

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- A 37-year-old Richmond man is dead after police say a Saturday afternoon robbery call on Richmond Highway became a shooting. At about 1:21 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 14, officers with the Richmond Police Department were called to the 3600 block of Richmond Highway for report of a robbery that was then upgraded to a shooting. When they arrived, officers found 37-year-old Wesley Jefferson, of Richmond, down on the ground. He had been shot. He was taken to a local hospital, where he died. Man arrested, charged in connection to shooting at Southpark Mall in Colonial Heights 8News reached out to police for further details, such as whether or not the suspect stole anything from Jefferson. A police spokesperson said detectives have not released any additional information at this time. The investigation into this shooting continues.
