41-year-old woman dead after her car hit a guardrail in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 41-year-old Tappahannock woman is dead after her car struck a guardrail along Mechanicsville Turnpike early Saturday morning.

At around 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, May 3, officers with the Henrico County Police Division responded to the Mechanicsville Turnpike area at the border with Hanover County for a reported single-vehicle crash.

When officers arrived, they found a car in the westbound lanes. With the help from Hanover County Deputies, they pulled a woman -- later identified as 41-year-old Morishia Vershonda Robinson of Tappahannock -- from the vehicle, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

An initial investigation suggests that Robinson was driving eastbound on Mechanicsville Turnpike when her vehicle hit the guardrail on the right side of the road. This led to her vehicle veering left, and she "crossed the median and collided with the jersey wall along the westbound lanes of Mechanicsville Turnpike," according to police.

Police believe that speed and a failure to wear a seatbelt were factors in this crash.
