43-year-old man hit, killed by pickup truck while walking in Henrico

HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 43-year-old man was hit and killed by a pickup truck while walking in an Henrico County intersection on Wednesday evening.

On Wednesday, Feb. 25, at around 9:20 p.m., Henrico County Department of Emergency Communications received a 911 call for a "suspicious situation" that police say involved a man walking in the middle of Nine Mile Road near Masonic Lane.

While police officers were on the way to the incident, the caller reported that the man was hit by a car, according to a release.

Once officers arrived, they found a man with "obvious signs of trauma," according to police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later identified the victim as 43-year-old Torianno Lakeith Callahan, of Henrico County.

According to the preliminary investigation, police said that "Mr. Callahan was walking in the road on Nine Mile Road when he was [hit] by a pickup truck."

The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, police said.

Police do not believe drugs, alcohol or speed were factors in the crash on behalf of the driver, though investigators believe Callahan may have been under the influence of drugs at the time.

After this incident, Henrico County Division of Police wants to also remind community members of its "Watch Out Ahead Henrico" initiative, also known as "WOAH!"
