64-year-old man arrested after armed robberies at Albemarle mall

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- A 64-year-old Charlottesville man is facing multiple charges after police say he robbed multiple businesses at an Albemarle County mall at gunpoint.

At about 10:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2, officers with the Albemarle County Police Department were called to the Pantops Shopping Center after receiving reports of armed robberies at two businesses there.

Staff at both the Virginia ABC Store and the Taco Bell at the Pantops Shopping Center described a man demanding cash from them and making threats of having a weapon, according to police.

The man then reportedly left the shopping center in a car with "an undisclosed amount of cash," police said.

Officers soon identified a 64-year-old Charlottesville man as the suspect in these robberies. He was arrested at his home with the assistance of the Charlottesville Police Department.

The man faces two counts of robbery, one count of possessing a firearm as a convicted felon and one count of using a firearm in the commission of a felony.
