65-year-old woman killed in head-on Route 288 crash in Goochland County

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Virginia State Police are investigating a head-on crash on Route 288 that resulted in the death of a 65-year-old woman in Goochland County.
At 10:42 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 20, state troopers were called to the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Route 288 southbound near Tuckahoe Creek Parkway.
According to police, the preliminary investigation indicates one vehicle was driving northbound on Route 288 when it crossed the grass median and hit a southbound vehicle head-on.
The driver of the southbound vehicle -- identified as 65-year-old Cynthia Diggs, of Maidens -- died at the scene, according to police.
"A passenger in Diggs’ vehicle was transported to VCU Medical Center with injuries," a release from Virginia State Police reads. "The driver and passenger of the northbound vehicle were also transported to VCU Medical Center."
VDOT reported all southbound lanes were closed following the crash. All lanes were reopened around 3:45 a.m. on Sunday, according to police.
The crash remains under investigation by Virginia State Police.
