8Arts & Culture: ‘One Last Breath: The Daniel Simmons Story’ film honors life of S.C. pastor

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- In this episode of the 8Arts & Culture, 8News Video Editor/ Photographer Catrice Roots spoke with Rose Simmons, the executive director of “One Last Breath: The Daniel Simmons Story,” to discuss the upcoming screening of the documentary in Richmond which honors her father's life and legacy following a tragic shooting at his church in 2015 in Charleston, S.C.

This week, Roots sat down with Rose Simmons to discuss the film, which honors his legacy as a pastor and the impact of the tragedy on the Charleston community. Roots also spoke with producer Durwood Lundy and Danita Green, CEO of Coming Together Virginia.

The racially motivated mass shooting, which killed Rev. Daniel Simmons and eight other people, occurred on June 17, 2015, at Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church during Bible study.

The film will be screened at 6:30 p.m. at the Virginia Museum of History & Culture on Tuesday, July 1. Tickets are $20, with proceeds benefitting Coming Together Virginia's Good Faith in Action series.
