8Arts & Culture: Open Space Education’s impact on RVA youth

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- In this week's episode of 8Arts & Culture, Digital Content Producer Kendal McAuley, shined a light on Open Space Education and how the program has promoted creativity in the lives of local youth in Richmond.

Kendal sat down with Open Space Education's founder and director, Blythe King, and deputy director, Mike Zetlan -- as they shared Open Space's mission to connect youth with the community around them through nature and art.

8News had the pleasure of covering their mural unveiling with students from Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School last spring, and now we're following up to share what's new -- including an exciting expansion and new space for the program to grow.

Blythe and Mike emphasized the importance of arts in education, highlighting how it serves as not only a creative outlet for youth, but also a way to develop critical thinking skills.

Open Space Education was founded in 2001 and has blossomed over the years to positively impact the community. To stay updated, get involved or contribute, visit their website.
