8News interviews Marlon Wayans ahead of his ‘Wild Child’ stand up tour performance in Richmond
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Actor and comedian Marlon Wayans will be taking to the stage this weekend at the Dominion Energy Center as part of his "Wild Child" standup comedy tour. "It's funny … it's different, I don't think anyone is doing anything like this," Wayans told 8News, describing his latest show. "A little bit of heart … a little bit of spirit … but a lot of laughs." Wayans is known for his work with his brother, Shawn, in the 90s sitcom, "The Wayans Bros." and other popular comedy films from the 2000s such as "Scary Movie," and "Little Man." He has also had dramatic roles in films like "Requiem for a Dream." According to Wayans, the "Wild Child" tour has been his opportunity to make himself the punchline of his jokes. "I got to throw myself under the bus in order for the world to have some laughter — gotta make me the scapegoat so laugh at my expense," Wayans said. "I can honestly say I've been through hell only to find a little slice of heaven and it took me a time to find my smile again and I want to teach the world to smile again. " Wayans also said the "Scary Movie" franchise is set to make a return with a sixth installment written and produced by him and his brother. Shooting is slated to begin next year. "I am very excited ... Poke some fun, everybody gets it, you know how we do ... equal opportunity offender," Wayans said. "I'm excited to do what God called me to do which is make people laugh." Wayans will be at the Dominion Energy Carpenter Center at 7 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 17. Tickets are available for purchase at the Dominion Energy Center website.
