8News joins Richmond fraternity in raising money for scholarship programs
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News joined a Richmond fraternity chapter at a formal event Friday night, which brought people together to raise money for multiple scholarship programs that benefit local young men. This event, the "Sigma Night On The Town 2024," was hosted the night of Friday, Nov. 22 by the Iota Sigma graduate chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. at the Dewey Gottwald Center in Richmond. It drew crowds -- all dressed to the nines -- for "an extraordinary celebration of culture, brotherhood and service." 8News anchor Eric Philips served as the event's emcee. Attendees enjoyed entertainment like live music from JTucker Trio and DJ Reflexx and spent the evening fostering community -- all while supporting the fraternity's three scholarship programs. 8News anchor Eric Philips emceeing the Sigma Night on the Town 2024, hosted by the Iota Sigma graduate chapter of the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. in Richmond, on Nov. 22. Watkins Memorial Scholarship, is awarded once every year to one male Henrico County, Hanover County or Richmond high school student who "exhibits personal integrity and excellence through academic achievement and community service."
