8News talks with Henrico Humane Society ahead of 25th annual Pet Expo

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — 8News got a special visit from the most paw-fect guests from the Henrico Humane Society (HHS).

8News anchors Autumn Childress and Madison Moore were joined by HHS event coordinator Melissa Golden to talk about the annual Pet Expo, which is celebrating its 25th year this weekend.

Golden also brought Blaze and Steel, a pair of 9-week-old tabby kittens. They will be available for adoption in about a week.

Pet Expo will take place on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Richmond Raceway Complex, located at 600 E. Laburnum Ave.

"It is the most amazing experience for anybody who's a pet lover," Golden said.

The event will feature over 70 vendors offering local homemade treats, pet bandanas, boarding and daycare services, and everything pet-related. There will also be an online auction with over 100 items.

Proceeds from the group's largest fundraiser of the year will allow the HHS to help more animals like Blaze and Steel.

"Most of the animals we rescue largely from shelters are healthy but some of them are quite ill or in need of rehabilitation," Golden said. "Those expenses can get really costly."

Admission is $8 online and $10 at the door for adults. Tickets are $5 for children ages 6-12. Children under 6 years old and pets can attend for free.
