A mandatory evacuation is in effect for those in Hatteras Island Zone A

RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- According to the Outer Banks, all Hatteras Island areas (Zone A) are under a mandatory evacuation.

The announcement comes after a Facebook post from the Outer Banks and includes the following areas:

  • Rodanthe
  • Waves
  • Salvo
  • Avon
  • Buxton
  • Frisco
  • Hatteras

Visitors are being asked to leave by Monday, Aug. 18 at 10 a.m., and residents are asked to leave by Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 8 a.m.

The outer banks says to pack essentials, secure property, get to safety and to stay alert and be safe.
