AC issues at Amelia High School due to mechanical failure as school begins
AMELIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Amelia County High School is experiencing issues with an air conditioning unit (AC) after a mechanical failure that occurred on Friday.
On the first day of school -- Tuesday, Aug. 12 -- a spokesperson with the school district sent out a "First Day Message," which detailed the issue with an AC unit at the school.
According to the message, the unit, which serves the school's main office and English and Science halls, experienced a mechanical failure three days before the first day of school on Friday, Aug. 9.

Two of the unit's three compressors reportedly failed, and vendors told the school district it would take five to six weeks before the parts would come in.
The school said the administration will move students from the classrooms without AC to other classrooms or areas in the building temporarily during this period.
The high school also recently experienced a delayed release on Tuesday due to "an unforeseen issue that required buses to hold at the middle school until cleared," officials said.
The reason for the delay is unclear at the time of reporting.
"We appreciate your understanding and support as we work together to support our students," the school district said.
