Affiliate companies continue preempting ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ after ABC reinstatement
IRVING, Texas (NEXSTAR) -- Television host Jimmy Kimmel's late-night show has been reinstated by the ABC network, according to a statement from The Walt Disney Company.
Below is a statement from the Walt Disney Company announcing the return of Kimmel's show "Jimmy Kimmel Live!":
"Last Wednesday, we made the decision to suspend production on the show to avoid further inflaming a tense situation at an emotional moment for our country. It is a decision we made because we felt some of the comments were ill-timed and thus insensitive. We have spent the last days having thoughtful conversations with Jimmy, and after those conversations, we reached the decision to return the show on Tuesday."
This comes after the television host was "suspended indefinitely" by ABC last week for comments regarding the Trump administration in the midst of Charlie Kirk's death.
The network’s decision came after Nexstar Media Group -- the parent company of this news station -- and Sinclair Broadcasting Group announced ABC affiliates would preempt the show indefinitely after threats from FCC Chair Brendan Carr.
In a social post on X, Sinclair announced that it would be preempting "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" and replacing it with news programming.
"Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show's potential return," the social post said.
Nexstar Media released a similar statement on Tuesday morning, stating that it would continue to preempt the late-night show.
"We stand by that decision pending assurance that all parties are committed to fostering an environment of respectful, constructive dialogue in the markets we serve," the statement from Nexstar reads, in part. "In the meantime, we note that 'Jimmy Kimmel Live!' will be available nationwide on multiple Disney-owned streaming products, while our stations will focus on continuing to produce local news and other programming relevant to their respective markets."
