Albemarle Police arrest 34-year-old driver involved in multiple hit-and-runs crashes

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The Albemarle County Police Department arrested a driver involved in multiple hit-in-runs just outside of Charlottesville on Saturday, Sept. 13.

According to the Albemarle Police Department, at around 2:30 p.m. county police noticed a vehicle that failed to obey a red traffic signal in Hilton Heights Road and Seminole Trail area.

Officers then stated that the vehicle continued "driving erratically along Seminole Trail."

According to police, "an attempt was made to stop the vehicle near Seminole Trail and Woodbrook Drive; however, the driver disregarded several traffic signals and failed to yield."

Police stated that they then stopped the pursuit due to concern for public safety.

A short while after that police stated that it was determined that the, "suspect vehicle matched the description of multiple hit-and-run crashes that had occurred earlier in the day in the City of Charlottesville."

The vehicle was reported to still be driving recklessly, however with no police officers in pursuit. After this, a second attempt at stopping the vehicle was made by police, however according to officers, "again the suspect fled in an attempt to elude officers."

The suspect now identified as 34-year-old Jerome Edward Walker of Charlottesville, entered the City of Charlottesville on the 250 Bypass when the driver hit a motorist.

The motorist had no reported injuries and officers stopped the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. Walker has been charged with five counts of Disregarding a Traffic Signal, and One count of Felony Eluding.

Albemarle County Police stated that this is an ongoing investigation and additional charges are pending.
