Amelia High looking for new principal, assistant principal

AMELIA COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Amelia County High School is searching for both a new principal and assistant principal just months after a 17-year-old student took his own life due to bullying.

On Thursday, July 17, Amelia County Public Schools posted on Facebook that it was hiring to fill a variety of positions -- including the role of principal at Amelia County High.

8News took a look at Amelia County Public Schools' job listings and found that both the principal and assistant principal roles at the high school are among those accepting applications.

As of the time of reporting, Amelia County High School's staff directory lists John Ringstaff as its principal and Katie Jamrozy-Hamby as its assistant principal.

8News is working to learn why Ringstaff and Jamrozy-Hamby are leaving or have left their roles at the school. An update will be provided when possible.

However, this change in leadership does come a few months after 17-year-old student John Tyrcha died by suicide after being bullied at school.

His family, who previously told 8News that this bullying had been going on for years, claims they repeatedly went to Amelia County Public Schools leadership about how Tyrcha was being treated. They said that they were always told these matters were being addressed -- however, the bullying did not stop.

This is a developing story, stay with 8News for updates.
