Back to School Guide for Charles City County Public Schools

CHARLES CITY COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News is your Back to School headquarters for the 2025-26 school year! Here is everything students and parents in Charles City County Public Schools (CCPS) need to know.
CCPS students started school on Monday, Aug. 18.
School supplies
For supplies, CCPS said lists have been posted on their division website for each grade level.
CCPS held its annual back-to-school fair on Saturday, Aug. 9, at Charles City High School (CCHS), where community partners provided school supplies, resources, information and activities for students to start the school year.
Security and metal detectors
All students will go through active walk-through metal detectors when entering the schools, according to CCPS.
"Students must place their laptops, phones, and chargers in a storage bin before walking through the detectors," the school district said.
The school system outlined that all prohibited items are listed in the student code of conduct.
Cellphone policy
CCPS said it is following Executive Order 33, which was passed by Gov. Glenn Youngkin, in regards to a cellphone-free education.
Cellphones must be turned off and stored away from the first bell at the start of the school day until the dismissal bell rings at the end of the academic day. More information on the school district's cellphone policy is provided in the CCPS student code of conduct.
Nutrition
According to the school district, all students attending any school in CCPS can receive a nutritious breakfast and lunch at school at no charge to their household.
Staffing
Charles City County Elementary School is considered fully staffed at 94%, and CCHS is 93% staffed. However, according to the school district, the most difficult position to fill has been for Early Childhood Special Education (ECSE).
The school district's plan is to offer a sign-on bonus and tuition reimbursement to help qualified candidates pursue the ECSE degree.
Transportation and food services, including the maintenance departments, are 88% staffed. In total, the school district is fully staffed at 92% with no schools or centers currently under construction.
Trade programs
CCHS reopened its Tech Ed building two years ago and will participate in the Region 4 GO TEC Expansion 1 Grant which will focus on strengthening early career exposure in advanced manufacturing, information technology, bioscience and logistics — supporting workforce development in key regional industries.
The GO TEC modules relate to the following sectors of healthcare, according to CCPS:
- Technologies
- Automation and Robotics
- IT Coding and Networking
- Precision Machining
- Metrology
- Mechanical Engineering
- Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering
- Welding
- Precision Agriculture
- Energy
"Every student matters, and every day counts. We are here to support you, and we are all in this together. Our teachers cannot wait to meet you," the school district said.
