Kings Dominion’s Winterfest returns featuring over 6 million lights
HANOVER COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Holiday fun is returning to Kings Dominion with its upcoming Winterfest, set to kick off at the end of the month. Winterfest at Kings Dominion (Courtesy of Kings Dominion) Starting Friday, Nov. 29, Kings Dominion's 2024 Winterfest will begin until Saturday, Jan. 4 -- bringing over 6 million lights, ice skating, seasonal food items and everyone's favorite characters. According to Kings Dominion, the theme park will transform into one of Virginia's best holiday villages filled with delightful light displays. Other Winterfest highlights include: Live Entertainment and Shows -- Guests' favorite holiday characters will be strolling through the park to interact with everyone. Multiple shows like the Sounds of Nativity featuring live animals will return to the Jungle X-Pedition area and Tinker's Toy Factory will have multiple show times in the Kings Dominion Theater. Cool Yule Christmas will present nightly shows at Grand Bandstand in front of the Eiffel Tower. The festivities will begin every evening with "Tis the Season Tree Lighting Ceremony," as well as shows that start every 15 minutes. Holiday Treats -- Holiday seasonal treats will return, which includes fried and regular cinnamon pull-apart bread, candy cane funnel cakes, holiday crepes, vanilla-frosted pretzels and churros, Christmas cake and cookie ice-cream sandwiches. Other holiday favorites are smoked turkey, Virginia ham, sweet potato casserole, mashed potatoes with gravy, a hot brown sandwich and chicken alfredo pizza. Holiday Beverages -- Guests can enjoy a variety of hot and cold cocktails and mocktails like the holly jolly hot cocoa, the fireplace cider, the icy winter breeze, ginger bread hot cocoa and regular hot cocoa. Holiday Light Displays & Trees -- Winterfest is expected to feature over six million lights to shine for park guests, with more than 450 trees decorated and the 315ft Eiffel Tower that will transform into a giant illuminated tree. Ice Skating -- The park's fountains will become one of North America's largest outdoor ice-skating rinks, according to Kings Dominion. Cookie Decorating with Mrs. Claus -- Guests will have the option to decorate cookies in the kitchen with Mrs. Claus. Write a Letter to Santa -- Make a stop at the special post office to write Santa Claus a letter. Each letter will receive a stamp certifying that it will be opened at the North Pole. Pictures with Santa Claus -- Take a photo with Santa Claus. Private Igloos -- Private igloos will available for those that would like to unwind in a personal heated lounge. Rides -- Depending on the weather, there will be up to 25 rides open during Winterfest. New Year's Celebration -- Bring in the new year at Kings Dominion, the park will be open from 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 until 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
