Radar-based signs coming to Richmond gateway corridors
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- The Richmond Department of Transportation (DOT) has started construction on 15 permanent speed feedback signs along key gateway entrances into the city in an effort to reduce speeding.
These installations are part of the city's ongoing Vision Zero commitment to help eliminate traffic fatalities and promote safe transportation methods.
The signs utilize radar detection technology to measure the speed of approaching vehicles while displaying it next to the posted speed limit. If the driver is traveling above the limit, the display will flash to tell the driver to slow down

The project has received $1 million in funding courtesy of the Central Virginia Transportation Authority (CVTA), with installation estimated to be completed by this summer.
