Back to School Guide for Lunenburg County Public Schools
LUNENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- 8News is your back-to-school headquarters this 2025-26 school year! Here's what students and families kicking off a new academic year at Lunenburg County Public Schools need to know.
The first day of school for Lunenburg County Public Schools was Thursday, Aug. 7.
Things to know and what to bring to school
The school district asked students to arrive on time, be ready to learn and bring only approved school supplies.

High school students will be given specific supply requirements after they receive their class schedules.
For meals and nutrition services, all students receive free meals for breakfast and lunch.
Policies, changes for students and families to know about
In terms of school security, there have been enhanced safety measures put in place across the division. Open gate metal detectors will be in use at all secondary schools and the alternative education center. There will also be metal detectors installed at elementary schools.
Students are asked to avoid bringing prohibited items like weapons, vapes or non-approved electronics. Additionally, each school in the division has been assigned a School Resource Officer by the Lunenburg County Sheriff's Office.
The school district said that cell phones must be off and away during the school day, and personal devices cannot be used in place of assigned technology.
In an update, the school district said Central High School students will now be permitted to carry backpacks to class.
There have also been HVAC replacements in the office and kitchen of Kenbridge Elementary, the kitchen of Victoria Elementary and Room 104 at Central High School.
Changes to trade program offerings
The school district said that its trade and technical offerings have been expanded, including:
- Students now being able to earn college credit and industry certifications in automotive technology, HVAC and welding
- Dual enrollment courses are offered in collaboration with Southside Virginia Community College
- Students in grades 9 to 12 can now take carpentry
