Body of missing man found floating in Mecklenburg lake

MECKLENBURG COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- The body of a missing man was found floating in a lake in Mecklenburg County on Friday.

On Friday, Sept. 19, the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office received a call about a body floating in a lake near Longwood Campground.

The sheriff's office's dive team, as well as crews with the Clarksville Fire Department, went out to the scene and recovered the body.

On Monday, Sept. 22, the person was identified as Jermaine Wood of the Clarksville area. The Clarksville Police Department had been searching for Wood since he was reported missing on Sunday, Sept. 14.

No additional information -- such as Wood's cause of death, which has not yet been determined -- is available as of the time of reporting.

"We extend our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Mr. Wood during this difficult time," the sheriff's office said.
