Bridging RVA to host 11th annual Christmas Day Dinner to give back to the community
RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) -- Bridging RVA is set to host its 11th annual Christmas Day dinner and provide around 3,000 meals to neighbors.
The Beth Ahabah congregation, located at 1111 West Franklin Street, will serve as home base for the effort from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. according to a press release.
“It’s hard to believe it’s been 11 years,” said Bridging RVA’s Executive Director Lee Ann Sawyer. “We wish the need didn’t exist, but we are so thankful for how the community comes together for this event.”
According to the event flyer, anyone in need of a meal, fellowship or both on Christmas Day can attend the dinner.
Volunteers with Bridging RVA will serve hot meals which will include turkey, sides and a dessert at the Beth Ahabah congregation as well as to those who can't make it to the sit-down meal.
According to the release, this volunteering event takes over 200 volunteers and, "outreach to social services partners, corporate in-kind donations, and the community’s financial support to bring this tradition to life," Sawyer said.
“There are so many great nonprofits in our area, so rather than duplicate efforts we look for unmet needs and then bring volunteers and resources to bear,” said board member Ellen Thornhill. “Whether its food, beds for kids, shelter, addiction resources--you name it--we want to meet those needs and build a stronger RVA."
Meal preparation for Christmas Day will be held Monday, Dec. 22 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 9201 W, Huguenot Rd., and Tuesday, Dec. 23 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 9614 River Road.
Decorating at Beth Ahabah will be Saturday Dec. 23 and meal distribution will be Christmas Day, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Beth Ahabah.
