Cat rescued from house fire on Jahnke Road in Chesterfield

CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A cat was rescued from a house fire on Jahnke Road in Chesterfield Monday evening after officials said a blaze broke out in the home's crawlspace.

At 10:22 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 9, Chesterfield Fire and EMS crews responded to a call for a house fire in the 7700 block of Jahnke Road.

The first firefighters who arrived on the scene reportedly found a fire coming from the crawlspace of the home.

Crews were able to get the fire under control in about 20 minutes, but officials said the fire caused some damage to the home's living space.

There were no injuries, according to officials. One cat was rescued from inside the home by firefighters and is okay.

Officials said it is believed that the fire started in the oil furnace in the home's crawlspace.

It's unclear if anyone will be displaced following the fire. This story will be updated if additional information becomes available.
